Magnetic Ink Character Recognition (MICR)







A character recognition system using special ink and characters which can be magnetized and read automatically. MICR is used almost exclusively in the banking industry where it is used to print details on cheques to enable automatic processing.



Optical-Character Recognition (OCR)




The process or technology of reading data in printed form by a device that scans and identifies characters. OCR is the most cost-effective and speedy method available.



Optical-Mark Recognition (OMR)



The process of capturing human-marked data from document forms.



Dot Matrix Printer



A type of printer that produces characters and illustrations by striking pins against an ink ribbon to print closely spaced in dots in the appropriate shape.



Plotters




A vector graphics printing device to print graphical plots that connects to a computer.



Photo Printer



A printer that is specially designed to print high quality digital photos on photo paper.



Portable Printer



A printer that is able to be carried or moved easily from place to place and specially designed to print high quality digital photos on photo paper.



Fax Machine




A device that sends and receives printed pages or images over telephone lines by converting them to and from electronic signals.



Multifunctional Devices





Hardware that combines several functions in one unit. A typical MFD may act as a combination includes printer, scanner, photocopier, fax and E-mail.



Internet Telephone





Technology that converts analog speech signals into digital signals and routes them through packed-switched networks of the internet.



Telephony





The transmission of sound between distant stations specially by radio or telephone.
